Thanks for the article, Asako. A 14.5% increase in HSI's is shocking. I reflect back to our dialogue in class about the criteria and requirements of becoming an HSI's. It seems like many of these institutions are becoming HSI's strictly for funding purposes. I question whether or not the mission, values, and curriculum of the institutions reflect the overall purpose of HSI's. Although it is great that 56% of Hispanics are enrolled at these institutions, I wonder if some of these institutions are truly meeting these student's needs. Perhaps the requirements and federal definition of HSI's should become more specific.
