The Death of a Florida A&M University (FAMU) Student due to Hazing

A drum major in the Marching 100 band at FAMU was beaten to death in a hazing incident. The university has strict rules and regulations against hazing, be it not tolerable in Fraternities, Sororities, and/or any other organizations on campus. The family of the student filed a lawsuit against the university “claming school officials did nothing to stop a ‘culture of hazing’ within the famed ‘Marching 100.’”

Any thoughts, feelings, and/or comments?

Some questions to think about:
  1. How do you feel about hazing in general?
  2. Do you think that the president of the Marching 100 is partially responsible for the student’s death? If so, why?

  1. In my opinion I think hazing is something that should not be tolerated especially when it can be determinately harmful to another human being. Hazing is something that we all know has taken place at many colleges and universities all over the country. However, the issue about hazing does not come into question until tragedies like this occurs. The president of the Marching 100 is partially responsible because he should of enforce a "No Hazing Policy" and make sure this rule is in effect. Even though he may not be with his marching band members at all times, this incident is partially his to blame. The other blame goes to the students involved in the tragic incident. It is very sad to see this happen to a student and if there were more strict rules enforced maybe this would not have happened.
