Black Male Success in Higher Education
Here is a new report from the Center for the Study of Race & Equity in Education at the University of Pennsylvania. The author of the report is Dr. Shaun Harper.
The report provides a great perspective and input for administrators to move forward with. There are definitely several factors that pull students from the straight and narrow path in college, but it is interesting that several of the men interviewed became more spiritual in college. They admittedly wavered in their practices, but overall their success was tied to God's plan for them. This piece is definitely one area (of many) that can be built upon as we look at retention of Black males. I read Hope in the Unseen about 10 years ago, but look forward to rereading it. Although Cedric started with a religious foundation prior to Brown, will he continue to use it as a catalyst for his success?! C.Bree
